Global R&D Spending to Grow in 2012 (Batelle Forecast)

The recently report released by Batelle  and R&D Magazine Batelle 2012 Global R&D Funding Forecast forecasts that global R&D spending will increase 5.2% to $1.4 Trillion. Asian economies will increase R&D spending by 9%, Europe by 3.5% and U.S. by 2.1% next year.

Jeffrey Wadsworth, President and CEO of Batelle,  addresses the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) at all levels of educationn as the foundation for a healthy, productive, innovation-based society. The report states a powerful statistic: between 2003 and 2007, educational output of scientists and engineers increased Asia’s share of the global researcher pool from 16% to 31%, corresponding to the rapid innovation and economic growth in that region – a strong evidence that STEM education is a critical enabler of research and innovation.
